The beauty about being confident in God is that no threat can make you stumble. One of my biggest fears was that something bad might happen to the kids under my supervision and that I would put in jeopardy my husband’s custody rights because of my mistakes. This was specially hard when our teenage girl was acting out and doing things to make statements (like, running out on me for an hour without a cellphone while being at my parents house–my husband traveling– and hiding behind the bushes to watch me as I freaked out driving around the neighborhood trying to find her).
Many times biomom will make threats to take the kids away, she might lie and tell people (or the cops) that your husband is an abuser. She might request not to have you around the kids by yourself, and she might manipulate them to be against their own father or to have them “ask to go to mom’s house” in order to have an excuse to come over or have a confrontation. All of these things are difficult to handle and sometimes we might respond to the threats with fear allowing the toxic behaviors to rule over our lives.
This is the moment when we can go to the Bible to search for strength and remind ourselves that God will protect us. He knows the truth…He can see our efforts to be like Him, our heart’s true intentions, and He will take charge of the situation. As long as we are confident in who we are in Jesus Christ there is nothing that can shake us (who cares what other people think?– what matters is that the kids are emotionally, physically and spiritually healthy…that is all you need to worry about).
“I look up to the mountains;
does my strength come from mountains?
No, my strength comes from God,
who made heaven, and earth, and mountains.
He won’t let you stumble,
your Guardian God won’t fall asleep.
Not on your life! Israel’s
Guardian will never doze or sleep.
God’s your Guardian,
right at your side to protect you—
Shielding you from sunstroke,
sheltering you from moonstroke.
God guards you from every evil,
he guards your very life.
He guards you when you leave and when you return,
he guards you now, he guards you always.“
Remember: Don’t be afraid. God protects you, always. Let the threats come, God has everything under control. Worry about seeking Him for wisdom and stand confident in His truth, don’t worry about the lies that are told about you, as long as you leave it all in God’s hands, He will protect you. Be Christ-like, be respectful, be honest, walk with integrity. Trust God.
